A free SEO strategy session sounds like a sales call dressed up as a favour — and most of them are.

This one isn't.

I run free SEO strategy sessions with founders, agency owners, and in-house SEO leads every single week.

Thirty minutes. With me directly. No pitch deck. No SDR. No "trial close" at the end.

We spend the call finding the three biggest gaps in your SEO and what you should do about each.

If we're a fit to work together at Goldie Agency, I'll say so at the end and you can decide on your own time.

If we're not, I'll tell you exactly what your better next move is — sometimes that's a tool, sometimes a different agency, sometimes "fix this one thing yourself first."

Either way you walk away with a real diagnosis, not a brochure.

This article is the full breakdown of what's on the call, who should book one, and the small group of people I quietly tell to skip it.

What a free SEO strategy session actually is (and isn't)

A free SEO strategy session is a short, focused diagnostic call between you and a senior SEO — in this case, me.

It's not a generic "intro chat" where I learn about your business and tell you we'll send a proposal.

It's not me reading off your numbers and asking when you want to start the retainer.

It's a working session where we open your Search Console, your Ahrefs profile, your current rankings, and your site live on the call.

I tell you what I'm seeing, what's holding the site back, and what to actually do about each issue.

Most people leave the call with two or three specific actions they can take this week — whether or not we ever work together.

That's the entire offer.

The 3 outcomes I aim for on every call

Every free SEO strategy session I run is engineered to deliver three things in 30 minutes.

1. An honest diagnosis. I tell you what's actually broken — the real reason your rankings are stuck or your traffic is plateauing. Most of the time it's not what you think.

2. The single biggest lever. Out of the 30 things "wrong" with your SEO, I tell you the one that would move the needle most if you fixed it. Everything else is noise compared to that lever.

3. A clear next step. Whether you hire us, hire someone else, or DIY — I tell you exactly what to do next. No vague "let's get on another call" nonsense.

If we don't hit those three by the end of the 30 minutes, I genuinely think we wasted your time.

I run a lot of these so I'm fast. Most calls hit all three with five minutes to spare for questions.

Who should book a free SEO strategy session

Honest list — these are the people who get the most out of a strategy call with me:

If you fit any of those, the call genuinely pays back — even if we never work together — because you walk away with a senior diagnosis you'd otherwise pay $500-$2,000 for.

Who should NOT book

I'll save you the trouble and tell you who should skip this:

If you fit any of those, no hard feelings — but the call probably isn't the best use of your time or mine.

The agenda — what happens in 30 minutes

Here's the actual breakdown, because most people imagine these calls go differently than they do:

That's it.

No deck. No "we'll send a proposal." No second call required to "discuss the proposal."

What to bring (and what NOT to bring)

To make the 30 minutes worth your time:

Bring:

Don't bring:

The leaner you arrive, the more value I can give you in the time.

The "no pitch" rule (why I do it this way)

Here's the thing nobody else admits: a free strategy session that's secretly a sales pitch is a worse use of everyone's time than a paid consult.

The prospect feels manipulated when the "diagnosis" turns into a quote in slide 11.

The agency wastes the call optimising for the sale instead of the diagnosis.

And the quality of the actual advice drops because it's being shaped by what the agency wants to sell, not what the prospect actually needs.

I run these the opposite way.

Every call, my job is to give the prospect the best 30 minutes of senior SEO thinking they've had this year — regardless of whether they ever pay us.

About one in four of those calls turns into a Goldie Agency engagement.

The other three? Often they refer a friend, come back six months later, or hire us for a different scope a year on.

That math has worked for the agency for years. The honest call is the marketing.

What happens after the call

I send you a short follow-up email within 24 hours.

The email recaps the three gaps we found, the single biggest lever, and the specific next step we agreed.

If you want to work with us, the email tells you how — proposed scope, fixed retainer, when we can start.

If not, the email points you at the right free resource for your situation: the Link Building Mastery book for the off-page work, the free SEO audit resources for the diagnostic work, or Best SEO Communities for finding the right peer network.

There's no second "discovery" call. There's no automated nurture sequence. You're not added to a mailing list unless you opt in for the book.

You get the diagnosis, the recap, the next step. That's the whole interaction.

How this fits with the rest of what we do

A free SEO strategy session is the front door to Goldie Agency.

If we work together after the call, you'll be in one of three retainers — covered in detail in our piece on SEO retainer pricing so you know the price band before the call.

If you're specifically looking for backlink work (rather than full-service SEO), the Backlink Blueprint explains exactly how we build DR70+ backlinks and what we white-label for other agencies — including our white-label link building service for agencies who don't want to build an in-house outreach team.

If you're a B2B SaaS specifically, the SEO for B2B SaaS piece is the framework we'd run on your account.

And if you're not even sure how to evaluate an SEO agency, how to choose an SEO agency is the article I'd give a friend going through that process — questions to ask, red flags to walk away from.

FAQ — free SEO strategy session

Is it actually free, or is there a hidden cost?

It's actually free. No card to book, no upsell on the call, no "first session free, second session $499" trick. The only ask is your time and a real intent to engage with the diagnosis.

How long does the call last?

30 minutes. Sometimes 35 if you've got urgent follow-up questions. We're disciplined about the time because most of the value lives in being focused, not in talking for an hour.

Do I have to be ready to hire an agency to book one?

No. Plenty of people book strategy sessions when they're researching, evaluating, or just stuck. You're not committing to anything by booking. If we end up a fit, great. If not, you still leave with a senior diagnosis.

What if you tell me I don't need an agency?

I will, regularly. About 30% of the calls end with "you don't need us — here's what I'd do yourself." That's the honest answer and the only one that makes the channel sustainable for me.

Can my team join the call?

Up to 2 of your team members is fine. Above that gets unwieldy in 30 minutes — better to send them a recording.

How quickly can I book one?

Usually 5-10 business days out. If something's urgent (manual penalty, sudden traffic drop), email me first and I'll see if I can fit you in faster.
